Shelter-in-Place Lifted for Charlton-Pollard Neighborhood

ExxonMobil Gives All Clear

The shelter-in-place order that was issued for the Charlton-Pollard neighborhood in Baytown, Texas, has been lifted. The order was issued on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, after a leak of a highly toxic chemical at the ExxonMobil plant located in the neighborhood. The leak was caused by a faulty valve on a storage tank, and it released a large amount of hydrofluoric acid into the air.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted on Thursday, March 9, 2023, after ExxonMobil officials determined that the leak had been contained and that the air quality in the neighborhood was safe. However, residents are still being advised to avoid the area where the leak occurred.

ExxonMobil has said that it is committed to the cleanup of the leak, and that it will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the community.
